The opposite is my approach, which is to relax and embrace the situation. But the heat and semi had drained any reserves, and Gatlin opened up a big gap right from the gun.

Prescod finished seventh of eight runners, in Matching his new personal best would only have earned him one more place, but he was nonetheless disappointed after the immediate confusion at the finish.

Prescod was right. Support from Nike and others had already allowed him to train full-time. But making a world championship final elevated him to a new rung of the UK Sport funding ladder, as an athlete with Olympic podium potential. In response, angry supporters of the bank gathered outside the White House and burned an effigy of Tyler. Bolt is an time world champion. He holds the world records in races for meters, at 9. Participating in the , and summer Olympic Games, Bolt completed a "triple-triple," with a total of nine gold medals earned in the meter, meter and 4xmeter relay races. In doing so, Bolt joined just two other triple-triple runners: Paavo Nurmi of Finland in , and and Carl Lewis of the United States in , , and However in January , the International Olympic Committee stripped Bolt of one of these medals, for the 4xmeter relay, because his teammate Nesta Carter was found guilty of a doping violation.

Bolt took back the meter world title on August 11, , after having lost the title in Although Bolt didn't strike his signature "lightning bolt" pose after the race, his winning image still caused a stir, with lightning striking just as he crossed the finish line. Trouble with his pelvic muscles forced him to withdraw from two races, though Bolt made a comeback that July with a meter win at London's Anniversary Games.

In , Bolt faced challenges on the track at the World Athletics Championships. He finished third in the men's meters, taking home the bronze medal behind Christian Coleman, who won silver, and Gatlin, who took home the gold.

It was the first time that Bolt had been beaten at the World Athletics Championships since His struggles didn't end there: In the 4xmeter relay, which many believed would be Bolt's final race, he collapsed from a hamstring injury and had to cross the finish line with the help of his teammates.

In August , following the World Athletics Championships, Bolt announced his retirement from track and field. Bolt had long talked about eventually making a career in soccer.

In August , following his retirement from track and field, he planned to join Manchester United for a charity game against Barcelona, but he had to miss the match due to his hamstring injury. It's a disgrace. Comment posted by Jamboree, at 5 Aug Jamboree. Bolt retires an absolute legend. His world records will stand for years, maybe decades, maybe forever. Three Olympic golds back to back in and will never be repeated. One of the greatest ever sports personalities. If Gatlin was Russian he wouldn't even be there. Should have had a life time ban. Ruined athletics for me. Cheat once you should have a life time ban! Feel let down. Devastated that my hero lost. But how wonderful he was in defeat.

A true gentleman. An entertainer and a fantastic sportsman. The perfect role model. Thanks for it all Usain Bolt. We will miss you.

Such a shame that the dream ending to a brilliant career didn't happen. The fact that Gatlin won leaves a very nasty taste in the mouth. Should never have been there. You have to separate the two aspects here. Gatlin won the race today. And Coleman beat Bolt, twice in 4 hours.

Of course, there is the legacy of a man who won so much and changed a lot of peoples perceptions of athletics. Regarding Gatlin, he has to wear the booing for his past like an albatross. He'll never inspire admiration and that may be his true punishment.
