They set up a trap, which includes a spike strip, but it fails. They need a backup plan or the specialist will get away and they will lose a chance to get to James. Michael, who was riding with Fiona, decides to make a risky move. He takes a small explosive, climbs out of the SUV and jumps on the specialist's armored car. The driver starts swerving, but Michael plants the explosive in the wheel well and jumps off the car. The explosive detonates and the car flips on its roof. They capture the specialist, who leads them to James' communications center inside an abandoned building.

At Madeline's house, Madeline asks Jesse why he decided to stick with this group even after what happened. Remember: Michael burned Jesse.

That's how their relationship started. This was yet another emotional moment. Jesse talks about how, until he met Michael, Madeline, Sam and Fiona, he never had a family. He lost his mom at a young age. And now, he's got one. Madeline confirms this. Here's where business picks up and one of the biggest moments in the show's history occurs. As Fiona, Michael and Sam are standing in the communications center, all of their phones starting ringing.

This isn't good. James is calling them and he's got bad news for the group. He and his men are outside of the center. Oh, and he has men outside of Madeline's house ready to kill Michael's mom and nephew.

When the men pulled up in front of Madeline's house, Jesse, Madeline and Charlie were about to leave. But they are forced to stay with James' operatives ready to ambush them.

This leads Madeline to make a surprising decision. She believes it's time to make some sacrifices of her own. Jesse has some C4 and Madeline has a plan. When James' men enter the house, she will set off the explosive, killing the operatives. But it will come with a price: Madeline will die in the explosion. Madeline calls Michael to share her plan. The tears start flowing, especially from Michael, as she talks to him.

We all did. But I'm so proud of the man you are," Madeline tells him. Madeline says goodbye to Charlie and Jesse. Now it's just her waiting in the living room for James' operatives to enter.

While she waits, Michael, Sam and Fiona decide to make a move. Fiona and Michael come out and James' men are pointing guns at them. They continue to walk closer to James when Fiona says, "Should we shoot them? Fiona and Michael grab guns from each other's waistbands and start shooting at James and his men. This leads James to order his men to kill Madeline and Charlie. James' men move in. Two go around the house while the rest enter the front.

Madeline is waiting for them in the living room smoking a cigarette. The men enter and Madeline says, "This one's for my boys.

Jesse, who was hiding out in a bathroom with Charlie, kills the two men who were trying to enter the back of the house. Back at the abandoned building, Fiona and Michael kill the rest of James' men. That leaves Fi and Mike against James. Michael wounds James and closes in. But James pulls out a dead man's switch. He lets go of the switch and the explosives start to go off in the building. Sam escapes, but the fate of Fiona and Michael is unknown.

It appears they have died in the explosion. One of the final scenes is at Langley, where the CIA headquarters is located. EW: Did you ever consider having Fiona going back to her Irish accent that we saw her with at the start of the series, or would that have been too jarring for the audience?

The idea is they to some extent have left that behind. Was it your idea to come full circle and give that little nod? NIX: If you go through the episode, everybody gets a nod like that, with saying their little lines from the intro at the top of the episode. So if you look closely, Madeline has her moments where she echoes her lines, Michael has his, Jesse has his, Fiona has hers. EW: Tell me what it was like personally filming this final installment. Seven seasons is a long time. One nice thing about ending a series is it takes so long to make an episode that you do have a lot of opportunities to say goodbye and people give a lot of speeches.

EW: Is Burn Notice really gone? To me, this feels like a franchise that could pump out a TV movie from time to time, like The Fall of Sam Axe one that you already did. NIX: I would love to do that. I totally think it could.

He called out by Robbie who argues with his brother at Fiona's birthday party for not financing a trip. In his anger, Robbie tells Mike about his affair with Fiona, prompting Mike to give him a well-deserved punch to the face. Mike then dumps Fiona. Despite their falling out, Mike doesn't fire her and lets her stay employed but does apologize for not being interesting to her.

Fiona thanks him and promises to repay her however, Mike makes it clear he wants nothing more to do with Fiona after this. She states Mike was devastated at her cheating and has torn himself apart, she tells Fiona that she shouldn't destroy her family anymore by asking for a favor.
