What was mailed to the president
There have been a few, well-publicised cases, such as in the North Carolina primary , which was re-run after a consultant for the Republican candidate tampered with voting papers. But the rate of voting fraud overall in the US is less than 0. And Federal Election Commission head Ellen Weintraub has said: "There's simply no basis for the conspiracy theory that voting by mail causes fraud. Let's look at some specific examples where fraud has been claimed this year.
Speaking at a rally in mid-October, Donald Trump said: "In Virginia, , applications were made that were false. And these applications, to apply for an absentee ballot form, were sent out with the wrong return address. But the electoral authorities in Virginia say there was no fraudulent intent and the mistake has been corrected.
President Trump tweeted: "In Ohio, 50, ballots were wrong, fraudulent - 50, About 50, voters did receive the wrong ballot in the post, in Franklin County, Ohio, in early October. And the local elections board said everyone affected was sent the correct voter slip, with safeguards in place to ensure no-one voted twice.
The board said the ballot error had been a "serious mistake". But in response to the president's tweet, it added: "Our board is bipartisan and our elections are fair - and every vote will be counted.
Once again you're wrong. And my name, again, is JocelynBenson. And there remains overwhelming evidence that voting by post is safe and secure. There are provisions in place to prevent people from impersonating voters or stealing ballots - such as authorities checking that ballots have come from voters' registered address and requiring signatures on envelopes.
Organization: If you are writing on behalf of an organization, union, association, group, or country, what is your organization's full name and what is your relationship to it e. Purpose: What is your purpose or reason for writing this message? Topic: What is the general topic domain of your message? Affiliation: In what capacity are you writing to the White House?
Subject: In your own words, what is the major subject of your message? Then it is up to the staff and interns and volunteers to dig through the letters and emails and figure out which ones to pass up the chain to Reeves, who personally reads around per day. In reviewing these letters, Reeves and her team are looking for a range of opinions and styles that will express what Americans are thinking about.
These findings are synthesized and put into graphs and are accessible to staff throughout the White House. Unlike almost everything else that reaches the president, these letters have not been fact-checked or committee-reviewed. And because these letters are so direct and unfiltered, many of them are quite personal.
The Office of Presidential Correspondence receives a number of sweet and funny letters as well. A high school student running for class president wrote in looking for speech-writing advice. And a nine-year-old girl asked President Obama how to make friends. In both of these cases, President Obama actually wrote back.
President Obama often responds to the ten letters. Most of the time he jots down notes in the margins about how to respond so that his staff writers can elaborate an official response.
The ten letters President Obama reads a night are more than just personal missives. They go on to shape White House policies and presidential pursuits, and they touch the lives of those tasked with reading through and curating them. Even if you write a letter on that final date, it may still reach Obama. He will be receiving ten letters on his last night in the oval office.
When the next President takes office, mail that arrived for them prior to January 20th will be waiting for them and the new staff of the Office of Presidential Correspondence.
He does read letters and write back! This admin is also pretty tech savvy. Given the current mood of the nation, we should all consider writing a letter to the President-elect and putting all our letters in the mail together on January 20th at the same time.
Whether or not the President-elect reads a single one and regardless of how we each may have voted individually, we can still send a clear message with one voice as the world watches: America still stands for an open, tolerant and inclusive society.
I am really considering sending an old-fashion letter via post office to President Obama. Also I really would like to get in contact with all the staff of that Presidential Correspondence group who handles the letters to congratulate for their job. Their work should be appreciated more…. Sadly it seems that the next administration will never do anything like that, and that is the reason why all that crew and staff of that Presidential Correspondence is gonna lose their jobs.
Still excited, Ben? Just curious, can you intelligently express your contentions with the former president without it resorting to just being nasty? Just actually substantively saying something you genuinely feel legitimately irate about?
